Responsibilities
We are seeking an Instrument Technician to join our Isando Plant Snacks team. This role ensures maximum plant uptime and drives operational excellence through expert maintenance and troubleshooting of instrumentation, control systems, and electrical equipment.
- Perform maintenance and repairs on electrical and instrumentation systems across process, packaging, palletizing, utilities, WWTP, and facilities.
- Lead all electrical and instrumentation troubleshooting and corrective actions to minimize downtime.
- Calibrate, repair, and maintain instruments and control equipment to meet operational standards.
- Conduct root cause analysis to resolve equipment performance issues and reduce costs.
- Maintain and program PLCs, SCADA systems, HMIs, VSDs, Servo drives, standalone controllers, and robotics.
- Evaluate and improve equipment control philosophies to achieve asset performance targets.
- Assist with commissioning modifications and projects, ensuring proper documentation and internal audits.
- Ensure availability of spares and manage all equipment deviations reporting to stakeholders.
- Perform scheduled maintenance, safety checks, and calibrations on all instrumentation equipment.
- Record all maintenance activities in SAP or computerized maintenance management systems.
- Collaborate with production staff, suppliers, and contractors to prevent equipment failures proactively.
- Provide shift coverage, standby, and overtime support as required.
- Ensure compliance with MESS standards and safe operation of all control systems.
Qualifications
- Electrical trade-tested with N6/S4 diploma in Electrical, Instrumentation, and Control.
- Minimum 5 years of maintenance experience in Production or FMCG environments.
- Advanced computer literacy with experience in MS Office and SAP maintenance management systems.
- Extensive knowledge of control systems, PLCs, SCADA, VSDs, Servo drives, HMI systems, high-speed printers, and robotics.
- Strong expertise in instrumentation, electrical diagrams, P&IDs, and component-level fault finding.
- Experience with industrial communication protocols including Ethernet, CANBUS, RS-232, ASI, and DeviceNet.
- Strong troubleshooting, calibration, and continuous improvement skills with a proactive maintenance mindset.
