Actuarial Assistant – Hire Resolve
Job Summary
Hire Resolve is seeking a driven and technically skilled Actuarial Assistant to join our client’s team, specializing in reserving within the non-life insurance sector. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in financial reporting, regulatory submissions, and planning processes while ensuring data integrity. This opportunity provides hands-on experience in core actuarial disciplines, regulatory compliance, and cross-functional collaboration in a fast-paced insurance environment.
Responsibilities
- Support the calculation and validation of reserves in compliance with IFRS17 and SAM reporting requirements for quarterly and annual submissions.
- Provide actuarial input for financial reporting and forecasting, ensuring accurate reserving metrics.
- Contribute to financial planning by delivering reserve projections and assumptions for internal and regulatory needs.
- Collaborate with internal teams, auditors, and regulators to address reserving queries and support audits.
- Assist in preparing reserve reports and regulatory submissions (e.g., SAM QRTs, FSCA Conduct of Business Returns).
- Enhance data quality processes related to actuarial inputs and outputs.
- Participate in developing actuarial models, tools, and reporting improvements.
Requirements
- Degree in Actuarial Science or equivalent.
- Completion of A1 and A2 Technical exams from ASSA (or equivalent IFoA stage).
- 2-3 years of experience in non-life insurance, preferably in reserving or technical reporting.
- Strong knowledge of reserving techniques, actuarial modeling, and short-term insurance valuation.
- Familiarity with South African regulatory standards (SAM) and IFRS17.
- Analytical mindset, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to explain complex actuarial concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Advanced Excel proficiency; experience with SQL, Power BI, or ResQ is advantageous.
- Highly accountable with a commitment to meeting deadlines.
