Manager Deli

Minimum Requirements
Matric (Grade 12)
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a supervisory or management role within a Deli environment

Business-minded approach with sound commercial awareness

Key Responsibilities

Merchandising Management
Conduct regular quality checks to ensure merchandise meets required standards
Execute planograms accurately and in full compliance
Handle and prepare products in line with SOPs
Ensure the department is fully prepared and trade-ready before store opening
Identify fast-selling lines and assess their impact on margins and sales opportunities
Ensure products are wrapped, packed, and displayed according to standards
Maintain adequate stock levels to meet customer demand
Ensure compliance with hygiene, housekeeping, and safe working standards
Monitor and implement promotional activities in line with the promotional calendar
Maintain clean, organised, and clear backup areas
Communicate customer demand trends to demand planning
Manage stock rotation and adherence to sell-by dates on sales floor and in backup areas
Maintain high merchandising and cleanliness standards throughout the day while minimising waste

Food Safety and Hygiene
Ensure strict adherence to hygiene and housekeeping standards
Manage and monitor stock rotation processes
Ensure compliance with food safety and health and safety regulations
Identify non-conformances and implement effective corrective actions
Implement cleaning schedules and monitor the effectiveness of cleaning and sanitation

Customer Service Management
Respond promptly and professionally to customer requests and enquiries
Provide clear communication regarding out-of-stock items, alternatives, and delivery timelines
Ensure department standards are consistently maintained and equipment is operational and manned

Staff Management
Communicate key operational and business information to staff
Set targets, prioritise tasks, delegate responsibilities, and monitor performance
Address procedural, policy, and legislative non-compliance
Attend monthly regional meetings and communicate relevant feedback to the team
Manage staff scheduling and make adjustments using Kronos

Administration
Ensure all equipment is maintained and functioning effectively
Maintain general maintenance standards within the department
Monitor waste levels and ensure compliance with waste management procedures
Track turnover performance, identify growth opportunities, and address barriers to achieving budget targets
Ensure shelf-edge labels are accurate, current, and clearly visible to customers

Systems and Reporting
Conduct gap scanning to identify out-of-stock items
Identify, count, and record out-of-stocks and over-stocks
Generate Excel reports from SAP and communicate stock concerns to Demand Planning
Process inter-depot transfers in SAP
Action reduced-to-clear processes in line with SOPs
Monitor electronic communications throughout the workday
Accurately process and record waste in systems
