Tax Accountant – Truworths Careers
Truworths is seeking an experienced Tax Accountant to join our team, playing a key role in tax compliance, strategy, and risk management across multiple jurisdictions. This position is ideal for a tax professional with expertise in Direct, Indirect, or International Tax who can combine technical excellence with strategic insight.
Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of complex corporate tax and VAT returns, and deliver tax advisory outputs across multiple jurisdictions.
- Prepare robust deferred tax calculations and IFRS-aligned tax disclosures for financial reporting.
- Advise on cross-border tax matters, including transfer pricing, international transactions, and tax developments.
- Strengthen and embed tax controls in alignment with group governance objectives.
- Support internal tax audits, revenue authority engagements, and litigation processes.
- Contribute to board-level reporting, including risk management disclosures and statutory compliance reviews.
- Research tax-related matters affecting the Group for discussion at the Tax Forum.
- Lead initiatives to build a technical centre of excellence, including:
- Conducting subject-matter research on key jurisdictions or tax types.
- Delivering technical training to finance teams and internal stakeholders.
- Leading cross-border tax consultations with group companies.
- Drafting and refining tax policies, procedures, and internal guidance to enhance compliance maturity.
Qualifications and Experience
- BCom degree with postgraduate specialisation in Taxation or Accounting (e.g., Honours).
- Minimum 5–8 years’ relevant tax experience.
- Multi-jurisdictional or multi-disciplinary tax experience advantageous.
- Experience in the retail industry is an added advantage.

- Strong knowledge of tax compliance and reporting processes, including applicable legislation.
- Ability to prepare and review deferred tax schedules, analyse temporary differences, and apply tax rates accurately.
- Excellent analytical thinking with strong attention to detail.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, with advanced Excel skills essential.
