Tyre & Mechanical Assistant – value logistics

Purpose of the Job

The Tyre & Mechanical Assistant is responsible for supporting mechanical repairs, vehicle servicing, tyre maintenance, and workshop operations. The role includes conducting tyre inspections and surveys, performing corrective actions, attending to roadside breakdowns, and ensuring all vehicles are thoroughly cleaned before leaving the depot. This position contributes to operational efficiency, safety compliance, and high service standards.

Key Responsibilities

General Tyre Duties

• Strip and fit tyres in accordance with company standards
• Maintain correct tyre pressures at all times
• Conduct tyre surveys and implement corrective actions
• Identify and replace worn or smooth tyres
• Complete tyre change slips accurately
• Ensure wheel nuts are properly torqued
• Maintain accurate tyre stock records
• Assist in maintaining cleanliness of workshop and tyre bay tools
• Respond to site calls for mechanical and tyre-related breakdowns

General Workshop Assistance Duties

• Assist with mechanical repairs, servicing, maintenance, and breakdowns
• Support all workshop operations and related functions
• Complete job cards, service schedules, and parts listings as required
• Assist with controlling spare parts and tyre inventory
• Maintain housekeeping standards in the workshop, parts area, tyre store, and washbay
• Support operational activities as required

Washbay Duties

• Ensure all vehicles are thoroughly washed and cleaned before dispatch
• Maintain daily cleanliness and organization of the washbay area
• Adhere to company dress code and Standard Operating Procedures
• Support compliance with Health and Safety standards

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 (Matric)
• Mechanical and tyre maintenance experience

Skills Required

• Ability to apply basic Health and Safety procedures under direct supervision
• Ability to identify hazards and follow instructions to manage risks effectively
• Strong teamwork and operational support skills
• Attention to detail and commitment to quality standards
