Category Manager (DL) X2

Job Description

The purpose of this role is to drive distribution center (DC) sales, increase retail loyalty, achieve DC and retail gross profit targets, and gain market share through effective planning, purchasing, and timely stock management in line with retailer requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and manage promotions to maximize sales and profitability.
  • Achieve sales and gross profit targets consistently.
  • Ensure product pricing remains competitive while maintaining budgeted retail margins for members.
  • Deliver defined service levels to retailers.
  • Develop and maintain internal controls to monitor and report on Category Managers’ performance areas.
  • Drive product development initiatives.
  • Oversee warehouse stock levels in line with budgeted expectations.
  • Manage supplier performance, including pricing, product quality, and service levels.
  • Execute ad hoc tasks and duties as required.

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years’ management experience in an FMCG environment.
  • Tertiary qualification in Marketing or Advertising.
  • Proven ability to develop suppliers from grassroots to fully compliant SPAR suppliers.
  • Demonstrated capability to collaborate effectively across the supply chain.
  • Strong computer literacy and strategic decision-making skills.
  • Excellent planning, organizational, and trading abilities.
  • Ability to develop comprehensive marketing and promotional strategies.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and management skills.
  • Skilled negotiator with entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Team player with ability to manage and lead high-level meetings and negotiations with retailers and suppliers.
  • Ability to mentor and provide direction to team members.
  • Solid understanding of the SPAR model and retailer needs.
  • Proven conflict resolution skills to achieve mutually acceptable outcomes.
