About the Role
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is looking for a dedicated Casual Frontshop Assistant to join the team. The role focuses on maintaining high merchandising standards while delivering excellent customer service at the point of sale in line with company policies and procedures.

Minimum Requirements

Essential:

  • Grade 12 / Matric or Senior Certificate
  • 0–6 months retail work experience

Advantageous:

  • 1 year retail experience

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure shelves are fully stocked, neatly displayed, and products are within expiry dates
  • Replenish merchandise to maintain optimal stock levels and maximise sales
  • Follow up on out-of-stock queries and resolve them promptly
  • Store and organise incoming stock correctly in designated areas
  • Maintain accurate product displays, pricing, and labels, reporting discrepancies to management
  • Keep the storeroom clean, organised, and accessible
  • Stay updated on product knowledge to assist customers effectively
  • Support back shopping and restocking activities as required
  • Handle merchandise carefully to minimise losses
  • Process customer transactions including cash, cards, vouchers, and other payment methods
  • Handle exchanges and returns when authorised
  • Process loyalty cards and partner rewards programs
  • Ensure secure cash handling and accurate cash flow at all times
  • Facilitate stock rotation and adhere to stock control procedures
  • Report low, damaged, expired, or out-of-stock items to management
  • Assist with stocktaking, counting, loading, and offloading of stock
  • Dispose of packaging materials appropriately after unpacking stock
  • Build positive relationships with customers through friendly and helpful service
  • Report customer feedback, complaints, and compliments to management
  • Meet customer service benchmarks and turnover targets
  • Assist with training of team members when required
  • Ensure all outgoing items are scanned and paid for
  • Maintain confidentiality of daily takings until secured
  • Identify and report suspicious behaviour
  • Maintain high housekeeping standards in line with company expectations
  • Follow all company policies, procedures, and health and safety regulations
  • Adhere to uniform and personal appearance standards

Core Competencies

Essential:

  • Understanding of retail operations and basic administration
  • Problem-solving skills with the ability to escalate issues appropriately
  • Basic numerical ability (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
  • Effective verbal communication skills
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Ability to follow procedures and maintain attention to detail
  • Self-management with accountability for quality and timely delivery

Advantageous:

  • Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Familiarity with SAP systems

Special Conditions of Employment

  • Willing and able to work retail hours
  • South African citizen
  • Clear criminal record and credit history (MIE)
