About the Role
Pick n Pay Careers is seeking a detail-focused and proactive Local Inventory Manager to oversee inventory processes at store level. This role is responsible for safeguarding stock integrity, identifying financial risk exposure, and driving initiatives that improve stock efficiency, availability, and overall profitability through strong controls and accurate reporting.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (essential)
- 2–3 years’ experience in inventory control or stock management
- Strong understanding of stock counts, stock movements, and loss prevention processes
- Experience with retail systems and reporting tools such as SAP or similar
- Proven ability to analyse data and identify root causes of stock variances
- Computer literacy in MS Office

Key Responsibilities
Inventory Control and Risk Management
- Execute full stock count plans, including national, divisional, and ad hoc counts
- Implement effective exit controls to minimise stock losses
- Manage dormant, obsolete, and overstock processes to optimise working capital
- Analyse stock discrepancies and variances, providing actionable recommendations to store management
- Ensure all stock movement processes are accurately followed, including shop use, reduce-to-clear, inter-department transfers, inter-branch transfers, and waste
Merchandising and Stock Availability
- Generate, review, and interpret daily and weekly stock reports, including category reviews, negative stock, and on-shelf availability
- Verify stock availability across locations for dormant, obsolete, and exit stock
- Identify and report deviations from merchandising and administrative standards
- Monitor compliance with inventory processes and ensure corrective action is taken
Systems, Reporting and Administration
- Validate stock reports and system postings in collaboration with store management
- Analyse operational stock and movement reports to identify risks and trends
- Plan and coordinate ad hoc stock counts as required
- Maintain system integrity and ensure accurate stock data at all times
- Manage and update the Stock Availability Programme on a daily and weekly basis
People Management and Development
- Coach, supervise, and support staff on inventory control procedures
- Build a culture of inventory discipline through training and continuous feedback
- Promote accountability and adherence to standard operating procedures across the store
