Warehouse Supervisor

Purpose of the Job
The Warehouse Supervisor is responsible for managing and controlling the end-to-end picking function and inventory control within the warehouse. This role oversees permanent and outsourced picking teams, ensuring that all processes are consistently followed, productivity targets are met, and customer orders are picked accurately and on time. The position is critical in maintaining discipline, improving efficiency, and ensuring system-driven picking while upholding safety, compliance, and productivity standards to deliver a reliable and cost-effective service.

Key Responsibilities

Operations

• Supervise, guide, and support permanent and outsourced picking teams

• Maintain a controlled, disciplined, and efficient working environment

• Conduct daily check-ins with staff to review progress, productivity, and challenges

• Ensure picking activities comply with approved processes and warehouse standards

• Confirm system-driven picking and correct stock selection from designated bays

• Perform random accuracy checks to ensure correct items and quantities

• Monitor and achieve required productivity targets

• Coordinate closely with warehouse planners to align picking with dispatch schedules

• Ensure orders are completed on time to prevent delays, additional transport costs, and service issues

• Monitor handling equipment to ensure optimal working condition

• Ensure all administrative procedures in the picking area are accurately followed

• Compile daily reports on productivity, progress, delays, challenges, and accuracy

• Maintain accurate records of staff performance and process deviations

Warehouse Supervision

• Lead, train, coach, and motivate picking staff

• Enforce company policies, health and safety regulations, and disciplinary procedures

• Facilitate regular team meetings and toolbox talks to drive continuous improvement

Reporting and Documentation

• Prepare daily and weekly reports on productivity, accuracy, and inventory

• Track KPIs including order accuracy, picking timelines, and stock discrepancies

• Maintain documentation to support internal and external audit requirements

Health and Safety Compliance

• Ensure full compliance with occupational health and safety standards

• Conduct risk assessments and implement corrective actions

• Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free working environment

Housekeeping

• Maintain high standards of cleanliness, organization, and safety throughout the warehouse

• Ensure aisles, picking areas, and storage zones are free from obstructions and hazards

• Implement and enforce daily housekeeping schedules

• Monitor hygiene and safety compliance, including proper waste and packaging disposal

• Conduct regular inspections to identify and address risks or cleanliness issues

• Ensure tools, equipment, and PPE are stored correctly and remain in good condition

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 (Matric)

• Diploma or Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, or a related field is preferred

• Proven picking experience within a warehouse environment

• Supervisory or team leader experience

Skills Requirements

• Strong supervisory and people management skills

• Knowledge of WMS, MS Office, and inventory control practices

• Good literacy and numerical ability

• Strong planning and organizational skills

• System-driven and process-focused mindset
