About the Program
Join a team where passion meets purpose! Sea Harvest is seeking a qualified Occupational Health Practitioner to maintain and monitor occupational health standards across our stores. This role ensures compliance with company policies, the OHS Act, and other related legislation while providing expert occupational health services and employee support. The position involves extensive local travel, home visits, and working with confidential information.

Minimum Requirements

  • Matric / Grade 12
  • Professional Nursing qualification
  • Occupational Health Nursing qualification registered with SANC
  • Currently registered and paid up at SANC
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in occupational health nursing
  • Valid driver’s license

Key Responsibilities

1. Occupational Health and Safety

  • Ensure compliance with OHS legislation and minimise Injuries on Duty (IODs)
  • Identify and report H&S risks during store visits
  • Analyse IOD reports and monitor monthly injury trends
  • Provide expert advice on IOD matters and safety procedures
  • Investigate recurring incidents and recommend corrective actions
  • Submit monthly incident reports and statistics to the National Office
  • Advise on procedures following employee or contractor fatalities
  • Monitor first aid readiness, including first aid boxes, first aiders, and medical waste removal
  • Review audits, H&S committee minutes, and OHP checklists for compliance
  • Serve as a co-opted member of the H&S Committee
  • Conduct environmental risk assessments as per OHS Act requirements

2. Occupational Nursing

  • Conduct risk-based baseline medicals for employees entering designated roles
  • Perform exit and executive medicals per company policy
  • Provide first aid and manage minor injuries on-site
  • Respond to customer medical emergencies promptly
  • Support managers with occupational health and medical queries
  • Assess employees for primary healthcare and occupational health concerns

3. Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) Facilitation

  • Facilitate voluntary counselling and testing (VCT) for HIV/AIDS
  • Organise Peer Educator training and Management HIV/AIDS awareness sessions
  • Support employees with chronic or serious medical conditions
  • Act as custodian of the company’s HIV/AIDS policy
  • Refer employees to relevant service providers (e.g., SANCA, AA, Lifeline, clinics, NGOs)
  • Manage health-related absenteeism and provide interventions
  • Respond to trauma incidents and coordinate counselling
  • Facilitate First Aid training and wellness initiatives aligned with the health calendar

4. Administration

  • Compile and submit monthly OHP reports
  • Advise and document disability and salary continuation cases
  • Coordinate medical appointments for disability applications and second opinions
  • Support employees with UIF applications and related processes
  • Monitor and contribute to OHP budget management
  • Ensure proper disposal of medical waste in compliance with legislation
  • Maintain accurate and confidential medical and occupational health records
  • Schedule and document regular store visits
  • Assist with public liability claim documentation
