Production Planner

About the Role
As a Production Planner at FlySafair, you will be responsible for coordinating and optimising aircraft maintenance planning activities to ensure efficient operations and minimal downtime. You will estimate maintenance durations, develop production schedules, and align resources to support maintenance checks and modification projects.

Working closely with Maintenance Planning, Production Control, Engineering, Materials Planning, and Quality Assurance teams, you will ensure the timely availability of labour, parts, and documentation. You will play a key role in monitoring maintenance progress, resolving scheduling conflicts, and driving continuous improvement initiatives within production planning processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Estimate maintenance downtime for scheduled checks.
  • Coordinate post-mortem meetings to evaluate and improve maintenance processes.
  • Collaborate with Materials Planning to ensure availability of required spares.
  • Work with Maintenance Planners to verify and correct work packages.
  • Facilitate pre-check meetings to align departments on maintenance requirements.
  • Support long-term hangar planning and scheduling activities.
  • Develop and maintain Gantt charts and production schedules for maintenance events and projects.
  • Liaise with maintenance, engineering, procurement, and quality teams to ensure resource readiness.
  • Review work packages and engineering documentation for accuracy and compliance.
  • Ensure timely compilation and submission of work orders to MRO providers.
  • Monitor maintenance progress and adjust schedules to mitigate delays or conflicts.
  • Track parts shortages and escalate supply chain issues when necessary.
  • Assist in following up on open tasks and work orders.
  • Generate production reports and provide updates to stakeholders.
  • Participate in production meetings and report on planning milestones.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives in production efficiency.
  • Maintain compliance with aviation regulations, company policies, and procedures.
  • Report non-compliance and implement corrective actions.
  • Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 or equivalent (essential).
  • Technical diploma or aviation trade qualification (advantageous).
  • Qualification in project planning or project management (advantageous).
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in aircraft planning, production control, or maintenance (essential).
  • Experience in project planning and management (advantageous).
  • Familiarity with maintenance systems and MRO software (advantageous).
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
  • Willingness to work overtime when required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
  • Knowledge of aircraft documentation such as MPD, Boeing or OEM manuals (essential).
  • Working knowledge of aviation regulations.
