About the Role
Dis-Chem Corkwood Square is seeking a Casual Frontshop Assistant to maintain merchandising standards and support excellent customer service at the point of sale in line with Dis-Chem policies and procedures.

Minimum Requirements

Essential:

  • Grade 12 / Matric or Senior Certificate
  • 0–6 months retail work experience

Advantageous:

  • 1 year retail work experience
  • Certification in Retail Business Management

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure full product ranges are available and neatly displayed on shelves.
  • Monitor stock to prevent expired or outdated items.
  • Restock merchandise to maximize sales.
  • Respond promptly to all customer out-of-stock queries.
  • Store and organize delivered or storeroom stock correctly.
  • Maintain accurate merchandise displays, labels, and pricing; report discrepancies to management.
  • Keep the storeroom organized and tidy.
  • Stay updated on product knowledge to assist customers effectively.
  • Assist with back shopping and restocking as needed.
  • Handle merchandise carefully to prevent losses.
  • Process all customer transactions, including cash, cards, vouchers, coupons, and loyalty cards.
  • Facilitate merchandise returns and exchanges per company policy.
  • Ensure cash is secured in the drop safe according to SOPs.
  • Approve line voids and price changes with Frontshop Leader authorization.
  • Maintain accurate cash flow at all times.
  • Rotate stock regularly and adhere to stock control procedures.
  • Report low, damaged, or expired stock to management.
  • Support stock counting and general stocktaking activities.
  • Assist with loading and off-loading stock, and flatten boxes for disposal.
  • Build professional relationships with customers and provide courteous assistance.
  • Report customer compliments and complaints to management.
  • Meet customer turnover per hour benchmarks.
  • Assist in training new and current team members.
  • Ensure outgoing stock/items/scripts are scanned and paid for.
  • Maintain housekeeping according to Dis-Chem standards.
  • Comply with Health & Safety regulations, company policies, and uniform standards.
  • Report suspicious or inappropriate behavior by staff or customers.

Competencies

Essential:

  • Knowledge of retail operations and administration
  • Problem-solving with appropriate escalation
  • Basic arithmetic skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
  • Effective verbal communication
  • Timely customer service
  • Ability to follow procedures
  • Accountability and ability to deliver results with minimal supervision

Advantageous:

  • Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Numerical skills and SAP knowledge

Special Conditions of Employment:

  • Availability to work retail hours
  • South African citizen
  • MIE clearance, no criminal record, clear credit rating
  • Driver’s license with own reliable transport
