About the Role
Pick n Pay Careers is seeking a driven and experienced Manager Fruit & Veg to lead the Fresh Produce department. This role focuses on delivering exceptional product quality, maximizing sales performance, and ensuring efficient operations through strong leadership and attention to detail.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (essential)
- 3–5 years’ experience in a Fresh Produce retail environment with supervisory or management responsibilities
- Strong knowledge of fresh produce handling, merchandising, and stock management
- Proven experience managing shrinkage, waste control, and stock rotation
- Sound understanding of food safety and hygiene standards

Key Responsibilities
Department Management and Commercial Performance
- Drive sales and profitability through effective merchandising and stock management strategies
- Ensure all Standard Operating Procedures are implemented and consistently followed
- Monitor daily sales performance and take corrective action to meet targets
- Manage pricing, promotions, and product mix to optimise revenue and margins
- Maintain high product availability while controlling stock levels efficiently
Product Quality and Freshness
- Ensure all fresh produce meets required quality and freshness standards
- Implement strict stock rotation practices to maximise shelf life and reduce waste
- Conduct regular quality checks and remove substandard or damaged stock
- Ensure correct handling and storage procedures are consistently applied
Customer Experience and Merchandising
- Maintain attractive, well-organised, and fully stocked displays to enhance customer appeal
- Ensure compliance with planograms and seasonal merchandising guidelines
- Promote key products through effective in-store displays and promotions
- Deliver excellent customer service through product knowledge and engagement
Stock Management and Waste Control
- Manage ordering and replenishment processes to maintain optimal stock levels
- Monitor stock movement, shrinkage, and waste, implementing corrective actions as needed
- Conduct regular stock counts and ensure accurate inventory records
- Collaborate with receiving teams to ensure quality and quantity standards are met
Team Leadership
- Lead, coach, and develop the Fresh Produce team to achieve operational goals
- Plan and manage staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage
- Train team members on product handling, merchandising standards, and food safety
- Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and high performance
Compliance and Food Safety
- Ensure full compliance with food safety, hygiene, and health regulations
- Maintain clean, safe, and organised working areas within the department
- Ensure all staff adhere to company policies and proper food handling procedures
