Technical Procurement Specialist

About the Role
As a Technical Procurement Specialist at FlySafair, you will play a critical role in sourcing and procuring aviation components while ensuring compliance with technical specifications, airworthiness standards, and operational requirements. You will support the development of efficient sourcing strategies, streamline procurement processes, and enhance overall operational responsiveness.

Working closely with procurement, engineering, and maintenance teams, you will evaluate suppliers, manage vendor relationships, and ensure procurement activities align with company policies and regulatory standards. You will also contribute to cost control initiatives, monitor supplier performance, and support critical operations, including Aircraft on Ground (AOG) situations.

This role requires a strong technical understanding of aviation components, the ability to interpret engineering documentation, and a proactive approach to risk management, ensuring the integrity and efficiency of the procurement function.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support sourcing strategies to improve procurement efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Procure from approved vendors in line with company policies and quality standards.
  • Identify and evaluate new suppliers, facilitating audits and onboarding processes.
  • Maintain accurate procurement records and ensure audit readiness.
  • Monitor procurement spend and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Source and procure technical aviation components in line with specifications and compliance standards.
  • Review engineering drawings, OEM documentation, and technical requirements.
  • Monitor supplier performance and address non-conformance or delivery issues.
  • Provide procurement support for maintenance and operational teams, including AOG requirements.
  • Collaborate with technical teams to resolve component and equipment issues.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and cost control within procurement.
  • Drive continuous improvement in procurement processes and risk management practices.
  • Ensure compliance with aviation regulations, company policies, and industry standards.
  • Participate in audits and support technical compliance requirements.
  • Monitor ERP systems for backorders, open requisitions, and order closures.
  • Ensure timely processing of supplier invoices and reduce financial discrepancies.
  • Assist with stock procurement and ad-hoc sourcing requirements.
  • Maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 or equivalent (essential).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Aviation Maintenance, Supply Chain Management, or related field, or a relevant maintenance trade qualification (essential).
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in aviation procurement with a technical focus (essential).
  • Experience with OEM documentation, technical specifications, and aviation component sourcing (essential).
  • Knowledge of procurement best practices, sourcing strategies, and supplier management.
  • Understanding of commercial shipping, INCO terms, and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong knowledge of aviation regulations, airworthiness standards, and SACAA compliance.
  • Experience with ERP procurement systems such as TRAX or similar platforms.
  • Technical understanding of aircraft systems, components, and maintenance requirements.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Willingness to work overtime and be on standby when required.
