Airport Operations Specialist

About the Role
As an Airport Operations Specialist at FlySafair, you will be responsible for ensuring smooth and efficient airport operations. You will develop and manage weekly operational plans, aligning staffing and equipment with business priorities and passenger demand forecasts. You will anticipate operational challenges and implement proactive solutions to maintain service quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.

You will contribute to workforce and capacity planning, manage relationships with third-party providers and airport authorities, and ensure adherence to contracts, service-level agreements, and safety standards. Leading performance reviews with service providers, you will address deficiencies and drive operational improvements. Collaboration with internal teams—including Flight Operations, Technical, and Ground Handling—will ensure seamless alignment of all operational activities.

Acting as delegated authority for the Base Manager during periods of absence, you will maintain operational continuity and provide guidance to staff while resolving complex issues. You will represent the Base Manager in audits, regulatory inspections, and cross-functional operational forums. Additionally, you will collect, analyze, and model operational data, design dashboards and reporting tools, and apply insights to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance passenger service. You will partner with senior stakeholders to provide data-driven recommendations for operational strategy and resource allocation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee operational plans, aligning resources to passenger demand and business priorities.
  • Identify operational constraints and recommend proactive solutions.
  • Contribute to workforce and capacity planning to ensure operational resilience.
  • Manage relationships with third-party service providers and airport authorities.
  • Conduct performance reviews and drive improvements with service providers.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to align operational activities.
  • Act as delegated authority for the Base Manager during absences.
  • Provide guidance and resolve complex operational issues.
  • Represent the Base Manager in audits, inspections, and operational forums.
  • Collect, interpret, and model operational data, including turnaround times, incident investigations, and passenger handling metrics.
  • Design and maintain dashboards and reporting tools for real-time performance monitoring.
  • Apply data insights to enhance operational efficiency and service delivery.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 or equivalent (essential).
  • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Aviation Management, Data Analytics, Logistics, or a related discipline (essential).
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in airport or airline operations, including 2 years in a specialist or supervisory role (essential).
  • Demonstrated experience in third-party/vendor performance management and data analytics (essential).
  • Proven track record of applying data insights to improve operational efficiency and service quality (essential).
  • Knowledge of passenger services, PRM procedures, IATA Passenger Resolution Conference (PRCM), Recommended Practices, Transport Information Manual (TIM), and IATA Dangerous Goods Manual.
  • Sound understanding of SACAA regulations, airport operational standards, and relevant Airport Authority Operation Procedures.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools, reporting systems, and MS Office.
