About the Role
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking a Casual Frontshop Assistant for their Central Park, Century City store. The role focuses on maintaining merchandising standards while supporting excellent customer service at the point of sale in line with Dis-Chem policies and procedures.
Minimum Requirements
Essential:
- Grade 12 / Matric or Senior Certificate
- 0–6 months retail work experience
Advantageous:
- 1 year retail work experience
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure full product ranges are available and neatly displayed on shelves.
- Monitor stock to prevent expired or outdated items.
- Restock merchandise to maximize sales.
- Address all customer out-of-stock queries promptly.
- Store and organize delivered stock correctly.
- Maintain accurate merchandise displays, labels, and pricing; report discrepancies to management.
- Keep the storeroom organized and tidy.
- Stay updated on product knowledge to assist customers effectively.
- Assist with back shopping and restocking when needed.
- Handle merchandise carefully to prevent losses.
- Process customer transactions including cash, cards, vouchers, and loyalty cards.
- Facilitate merchandise returns and exchanges per company policy.
- Ensure cash is secured in the drop safe according to SOPs.
- Approve line voids and price changes with Frontshop Leader authorization.
- Maintain accurate cash flow at all times.
- Rotate stock regularly and adhere to stock control procedures.
- Report low, damaged, or expired stock to management.
- Support stock counting and general stocktaking activities.
- Assist with loading and off-loading stock, and flatten boxes for disposal.
- Build professional relationships with customers and provide courteous assistance.
- Report customer compliments and complaints to management.
- Meet customer turnover per hour benchmarks.
- Assist with training new and current team members.
- Ensure outgoing stock/items/scripts are scanned and paid for.
- Maintain housekeeping according to Dis-Chem standards.
- Comply with Health & Safety regulations, company policies, and uniform standards.
- Report suspicious or inappropriate behavior by staff or customers.
Competencies
Essential:
- Knowledge of retail operations and administration
- Problem-solving with appropriate escalation
- Basic arithmetic skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
- Effective verbal communication
- Timely customer service
- Ability to follow procedures
- Accountability and ability to deliver results with minimal supervision
Advantageous:
- Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Numerical skills and SAP knowledge
Special Conditions of Employment:
- Availability to work retail hours
- South African citizen
- MIE clearance, no criminal record, clear credit rating
