Casual Frontshop Assistants – Dischem Vacancies

About the Role
Dis-Chem De Drift (New Store) in Velddrif is seeking Casual Frontshop Assistants to uphold merchandising standards while delivering excellent customer service at the point of sale in line with Dis-Chem policies and procedures.

Minimum Requirements

Essential:

  • Grade 12 / Matric or Senior Certificate
  • 0–6 months retail work experience

Advantageous:

  • 1 year retail work experience
  • Certification in Retail Business Management

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure full product ranges are available and neatly displayed on shelves.
  • Monitor stock to prevent expired or outdated items.
  • Restock merchandise to maximize sales.
  • Resolve customer out-of-stock queries promptly.
  • Store and organize delivered or storeroom stock correctly.
  • Maintain accurate merchandise displays, labels, and pricing; report discrepancies to management.
  • Keep the storeroom tidy and well organized.
  • Stay updated on product knowledge to assist customers effectively.
  • Assist with back shopping and restocking as required.
  • Handle merchandise carefully to minimize losses.
  • Process transactions including cash, cards, vouchers, coupons, and loyalty cards.
  • Facilitate returns and exchanges in line with company policy.
  • Secure cash in the drop safe according to SOPs.
  • Ensure line voids and price changes are approved by a Frontshop Leader or Retail Store Assistant.
  • Maintain accurate cash flow at all times.
  • Rotate stock regularly and follow stock control procedures.
  • Report low, damaged, expired, or out-of-stock items to management.
  • Assist with stock counts and general stocktaking.
  • Support loading and off-loading of stock; flatten boxes for designated disposal.
  • Build professional relationships with customers and provide friendly, helpful service.
  • Report customer compliments and complaints to management.
  • Meet customer turnover per hour benchmarks.
  • Assist with training new and existing team members.
  • Ensure outgoing stock, items, and scripts are scanned and paid for.
  • Maintain housekeeping in line with Dis-Chem standards.
  • Comply with Health & Safety regulations, company policies, and uniform standards.
  • Report suspicious or inappropriate behavior by staff or customers.

Competencies

Essential:

  • Knowledge of retail operations and administration
  • Problem-solving with appropriate escalation
  • Basic arithmetic skills
  • Clear verbal communication
  • Timely and professional customer service
  • Ability to follow procedures
  • Accountability and ability to work with minimal supervision

Advantageous:

  • Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Numerical skills and SAP knowledge

Special Conditions of Employment:

  • Availability to work retail hours
  • South African citizen
  • MIE clearance, no criminal record, clear credit rating
  • Driver’s license with own reliable transport
