Job Description
Dis-Chem Malvern Park is seeking a Casual Frontshop Assistant to maintain merchandising standards while supporting customer service at the point of sale in line with Dis-Chem policies and procedures.
Minimum Requirements
Essential:
- Grade 12 / Matric or Senior Certificate
- 0–6 months retail work experience
Advantageous:
- 1 year retail experience
- Certification in Retail Business Management
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure full product ranges are stocked, neatly displayed, and within sell-by dates
- Restock merchandise to maximise sales
- Respond to all out-of-stock customer queries promptly
- Store and organise delivered stock and stock from the storeroom in the correct locations
- Maintain correct merchandise displays, labels, and pricing, reporting discrepancies to management
- Keep the storeroom organised, tidy, and efficient
- Stay informed on new product knowledge to assist customers effectively
- Assist with back shopping and restocking of merchandise and supplies
- Handle all merchandise carefully to prevent losses
- Process all transactions accurately, including cash, cards, vouchers, coupons, and other accepted payments
- Exchange merchandise and process authorised returns
- Process loyalty cards, including those of accelerated partners
- Safely manage cash and ensure proper placement in drop safes according to SOPs
- Ensure line voids and price changes are approved and signed by the Frontshop Leader or Retail Store Assistant
- Maintain accurate cash flow at all times
- Rotate stock regularly and follow Dis-Chem stock control procedures
- Report low stock, out-of-stock, damaged, or expired items to management
- Assist with stock counts and general stocktaking
- Help with loading and offloading stock, and manage packaging disposal
- Establish professional relationships with customers, providing courteous and helpful assistance
- Report customer compliments and complaints to management
- Meet customer turnover per hour benchmarks
- Support training of new and current team members
- Ensure outgoing stock/items/scripts are scanned and paid for
- Keep daily takings secure until deposited in the drop safe
- Report suspicious behaviour of staff or customers
- Maintain housekeeping in line with Dis-Chem standards
- Adhere to Health and Safety rules, company policies, SOPs, and uniform/personal appearance policies
Competencies
Essential:
- Knowledge of retail operations and administration
- Problem-solving skills with ability to escalate issues appropriately
- Basic arithmetic skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
- Effective verbal communication and timely response to customer queries
- Ability to follow procedures and take personal responsibility for quality and timely work
Advantageous:
- Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Numerical skills and SAP experience
Special Conditions of Employment
- Willingness to work retail hours
- South African citizen
- Valid MIE, clear criminal record, and clear credit rating
- Driver’s license and reliable transport
