Purpose of the Job
The Warehouse Supervisor is responsible for managing and controlling the end-to-end picking function and inventory control within the warehouse. This role oversees a team of permanent and outsourced pickers, ensuring all processes are followed, productivity targets are achieved, and customer orders are picked accurately and on time. The position is key to maintaining discipline, driving efficiency, supporting system-driven picking, and ensuring safety, compliance, and productivity standards are met while assisting the wider warehouse team in delivering a reliable and cost-effective service.

Key Responsibilities

Operations

• Supervise, guide, and support permanent and outsourced pickers

• Maintain a controlled, disciplined, and efficient working environment

• Conduct daily check-ins with staff on progress, productivity, and challenges

• Ensure all picking is done according to warehouse processes and standards

• Verify system-driven picking and correct stock selection from designated bays

• Perform random accuracy checks to maintain high picking accuracy

• Ensure productivity targets and dispatch timelines are met

• Monitor equipment (pallet jacks, scanners, etc.) for proper working condition

• Oversee administrative processes within the picking area

• Report daily on productivity, progress, delays, and accuracy levels

• Document staff performance and deviations from standard processes

Warehouse Supervision

• Lead, train, and motivate picking staff

• Enforce company policies, Health & Safety regulations, and disciplinary procedures

• Conduct team meetings, toolbox talks, and provide feedback for continuous improvement

Reporting & Documentation

• Prepare daily and weekly reports on productivity, accuracy, and inventory

• Track KPIs such as order accuracy, picking timelines, and stock discrepancies

• Maintain compliance documentation for internal and external audits

Health & Safety Compliance

• Ensure adherence to occupational health and safety standards

• Conduct risk assessments and implement corrective actions

• Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment

Housekeeping

• Maintain warehouse cleanliness and organization at all times

• Ensure aisles, picking areas, and storage zones are free of obstructions and hazards

• Implement and enforce daily housekeeping schedules

• Monitor compliance with hygiene and safety standards, including proper waste disposal

• Conduct regular inspections to address potential risks or cleanliness issues

• Ensure tools, equipment, and PPE are stored correctly and in good condition

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 (Matric)

• Diploma or Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field (preferred)

• Picking experience within a warehouse environment

• Supervisory or team-leader experience

Skills Requirements

• Strong supervisory and people-management skills

• Knowledge of WMS, MS Office, and inventory control practices

• Good literacy and numeracy skills

• Strong planning and organizational abilities

• System-driven and process-oriented mindset
