Job Description
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking a Casual Frontshop Assistant for the Central Park, Century City store. The role focuses on maintaining merchandising standards while supporting customer service at the point of sale in accordance with Dis-Chem policies and procedures.
Minimum Requirements
Essential:
- Grade 12 / Matric or Senior Certificate
- 0–6 months retail work experience
Advantageous: - 1 year work experience within retail
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure all products are fully stocked on shelves, neatly presented, and within sell-by dates
- Restock merchandise as needed to maximise sales
- Address all customer out-of-stock queries in a timely manner
- Store delivered stock and items from the storeroom in the correct locations
- Ensure merchandise displays, labels, and pricing are accurate; report discrepancies to management
- Maintain an organised, tidy storeroom
- Stay up to date with new product knowledge to assist customers effectively
- Assist with back shopping and restocking of supplies
- Handle all merchandise carefully to prevent losses
- Transact all purchases, processing cash, cards, vouchers, coupons, and other payments
- Exchange merchandise and accept authorised returns
- Process all loyalty cards, including accelerated partners
- Safely manage cash in accordance with SOPs
- Ensure all line voids and price changes are approved and signed off by the Frontshop Leader or Retail Store Assistant
- Maintain accurate cash flow at all times
- Rotate stock regularly and adhere to Dis-Chem stock control procedures
- Report low, damaged, out-of-stock, or expired stock to management
- Assist with stock counts and general stocktaking
- Load and offload stock as required and manage packaging disposal
- Establish professional relationships with customers, providing friendly and helpful service
- Report customer compliments and complaints to management
- Adhere to customer turnover per hour benchmarks
- Assist with training new and current team members
- Scan and process all outgoing stock/items/scripts accurately
- Keep daily takings secure until deposited in the drop safe
- Report suspicious behaviour of staff or customers to management
- Maintain housekeeping standards according to Dis-Chem policies
- Adhere to health and safety rules, company policies, SOPs, and uniform standards
Competencies
Essential:
- Knowledge of retail operations and administration
- Problem-solving skills and knowing when to escalate issues
- Basic arithmetic comprehension (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
- Effective verbal communication
- Timely response to customer queries
- Ability to follow procedures accurately
- Takes personal responsibility for quality and timely completion of work with minimal oversight
Advantageous:
- Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook) and numerical skills
- Experience with SAP
Special Conditions of Employment

- South African citizen
- Valid MIE, clear criminal record, and clear credit rating
